During the Renaissance, interpretation, imitation and emulation were considered three essential steps in the development of a work of art. Other laws apply to today’s jazz compositions. They can be incomplete in order to leave room for the musicians to finalize the tunes together: during live performances, and every time in a different way. “Fade In, Fade Out” pays homage to Franz Schubert's song “Der Tod und das Mädchen” by a tasteful rhythmic interpretation supporting the improvised emulations by drummer Pascal Vermeer, bassist Jos Machtel, pianist Barry Green and tenor saxophonist Dick de Graaf.
