Saxophonist Dick de Graaf is a highly regarded musician who owes his reputation to a certain degree of his unremitting fascination with the fringes of jazz. Born of this fascination is his desire to assemble unique combinations of the most diverse musicians with the result, music of the highest quality that is just as unique.
What is extraordinary is that, despite the many side-roads that he so eagerly explodes, the saxophonist Dick de Graaf always manages to maintain his unique sound and his unique style of playing. And this is above all the most essential goal for every jazz musician.
So likewise on his CD CRY BABY!; now in the company of a rising young guitar talent Jerome Hol and a loudly growling rhythm section, saxophonist/ composer de Graaf remains as always completely recognizable and sturdily on his feet, and that’s the way it should be – liner notes, Hans Dulfer

Line-up: Dick de Graaf – tenor saxophone; Jerôme Hol – guitar; Harry Emmery – bass; Erik Kooger – drums

Recorded live for Radio Jazzkafee at Studio Wijnbergen, Harlingen NL. September – December 2008. Mastered by Q Point Digital Audio, Peter Brussee. Photography by Joost Leyen and Terry Emmery-Kruller van Nassau Dietz. Cover design by Joost Leyen.

    Press:
A hip concept – Jazzflits, Peter Korten

A tempty power-jazz record featuring de Graaf’s solid saxophone sound, with a leading role for the young and rockin’ guitarist Jerôme Hol – De Volkskrant, Koen Schouten

A perfect choice: this combination of the tenor saxophone and the fat sounds of the electric guitar – Music Maker, Marten Schulp

Thanks to the exciting rhythm section the interplay between saxophonist and guitarist shows intriguing beauty – Brabants Dagblad, Rinus van der Heijden
